When we allow our spines to lengthen and move dynamically throughout the day, we nourish the nervous system. This movement also supports brain health by enhancing the flow of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the essential fluid that cushions, nourishes, and protects the brain and nerve roots.


The Fountain of Cerebrospinal Fluid

Cerebrospinal fluid is like a life-giving fountain, continually flowing around the brain and spine. While we sleep, this fluid cleanses the brain, removing toxins and refreshing our neural networks. Imagine this fluid moving in waves, flowing down the spine and back up around the brain, keeping the entire system in balance.

The base of the spine acts like a pump for this vital fountain. When we sit with a lengthened spine, we facilitate the flow of this nourishing fluid. However, poor posture—such as slouching or tucking the tailbone—can "pinch the hose," reducing circulation and impeding the flow of CSF. Over time, this can lead to mental fatigue, tension, and even diminished focus.

  3. Add Movement: Gently move your tailbone forward and backward. Notice the subtle waves of motion traveling up your spine. This dynamic movement can improve circulation and help you feel more centered.

  4. Check Your Posture Regularly: Throughout the day, take moments to adjust your posture. Lengthen your spine, breathe deeply, and allow your body to support you.
