Becoming a Student of Ease: Unlocking the Power Within

Over a decade ago, I encountered a transformative concept: the Power of Ease. It came to me through the words of two inspiring teachers, Vickie Dodd and Herwig Schoen.

“You can do everything from Ease!” declared Vickie confidently.

Herwig followed with a simple, yet profound reflection:“If I can do everything from Ease, why would I do anything else?”

At the time, I craved the “Ease” they spoke of. Could life truly flow more smoothly, anchored in this seemingly simple state of being? I decided to find out, and the journey began with a realization: Ease is not just an abstract idea—it’s a tangible power inherent in all of us.

Becoming a Student of Ease

Determined to explore, I became what I now call a Student of Ease, approaching the concept from various lenses:

  • The Neuroscientist in me dove into the intricate workings of our smart bodies, fascinated by how Ease connects to our nervous systems.

  • The Trauma-Informed-Care Trainer sought methods to heal the brain, nervous system, and cells, looking for alternatives to traditional approaches.

  • The Athlete within me was curious about how Ease could enhance performance and recovery.

  • The Heart, longing for calm, yearned to find relief from the cycles of heartache and heartbreak.

  • The Inner Child saw Ease as a joyful game, ready to be played with curiosity and delight.

This multifaceted exploration unearthed a deeper understanding: Ease is both a practice and a state of being.

Activating Ease: The Science Behind the State

Ease is not passive. It’s a dynamic, restorative force that we can consciously activate within ourselves. Alongside my co-author, Aubrey Lesicki, I embarked on an inquiry into neuroscience and physiology. Together, we identified 14 “switches” that help initiate this state of ease. We call these Ease Keys.

One of the foundational aspects of Ease lies in improving circulation and oxygen flow to the brain and cells. When these functions are disrupted, our brains and nervous systems are forced into survival mode, inhibiting creativity, learning, and social engagement. Conversely, when circulation improves—especially to the brain’s frontal and temporal lobes—our capacity for health, resilience, and connection flourishes.

The Body as a Foundation for Ease

Our bodies are brilliantly designed to support Ease. They have an innate ability to restore balance, promote healing, and fuel wellbeing when we engage the right mechanisms. The journey of activating the Power of Ease begins with acknowledging this potential and exploring the ways we can tap into it.

Why Choose Ease?

Ease is not about avoiding challenges or striving for perfection. Instead, it’s about aligning with the flow of life, creating a foundation of strength, and unlocking the pathways that allow us to thrive.

As a Student of Ease, I’ve learned this:The more we explore Ease as a skill, the more it reveals itself as a way of living.

So, I invite you to ask yourself:What could you accomplish if you did it from a place of Ease?

Let the game begin.
